Lake of the Ozarks is the swimming destination in central Missouri. Impounding the Osage River created a reservoir of about 54,000 acres with 1,150 miles of shoreline, and the main Osage arm runs 92 miles end to end. Its serpentine shape earned it the nickname the Missouri Dragon. Public swimming beaches sit inside Missouri State Parks units around the lake.
