About this guide

What this site is

This is the United States edition of Uimaranta, a guide to public swimming water that already covers Finland, Germany, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, the Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium and Estonia. Each lake page answers the same questions: where the water is, whether you can swim, how warm it is, how high it is, and who to ask before you go.

How lakes are added

A lake is published only when it has verified coordinates from two independent sources, at least six sourced facts, a photograph with a licence and a public agency behind its numbers. We add a few lakes at a time rather than publishing a large catalogue at once.

What this site is not

It is not an official source. Water levels, advisories and park rules change faster than any guide can track. Check the operating agency before you swim, launch or plan around a specific ramp.
